Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

Plain answers to the questions reservation customers ask most. Email power@solartrailer.co.nz if your question isn't here.

When do trailers actually ship?

First production cohort is June 2026. Reserved slots are sequenced in deposit order — your slot number reflects when your deposit landed.

What does the NZ$500 reservation buy me?

A held production slot in the launch cohort, launch-parity pricing locked against any future RRP changes, and priority access to the configurator when it opens in Q1 2026. Fully refundable up to 14 days before despatch — no questions, no fees.

Will it actually run my site?

Use the calculator on the homepage with your real fuel spend and load profile — it sizes the right tier for your draw. Tier 2 covers a typical 8-house residential build, mid-size festival, or dairy support. If your draw exceeds Tier 3, contact us about pairing units.

What happens on a week of bad weather?

Every tier ships with battery storage sized for 1.5–2 days of typical site load with zero solar input. For multi-week deployments in the dead of winter, hybrid module rental (small LPG generator) is available on top of any trailer. Or — pair two trailers, common at festivals.

Is it road-legal? Who certifies it?

Yes. Every unit is transport-engineer certified, NZTA-registered as a Class TD trailer, with a current WoF and CoF where applicable. The electrical stack carries an NZ Electrical Safety Certificate. Tier 1 tows behind a 1-tonne ute on a normal car licence; Tier 3 needs a Class 1 with HT endorsement for the braked tandem.

Warranty if something fails?

Each tier ships with a manufacturer warranty. Specific terms (battery, inverter, structural, electrical) are surfaced in the configurator at checkout.

How does it compare to just buying a generator?

Solar trailers run silently, on no fuel, and sit inside council noise limits where diesel cannot. Zero per-kWh fuel cost after capex. Hybrid module rental covers the long winter tail. Generators have lower up-front cost but cost more over a 5–10 year horizon, generate noise complaints near homes, and don't qualify for residential-adjacent civil work in many councils.

Can I retrofit modules later?

Yes — modules (irrigation pump, espresso and hospitality, PA and lighting rig, tool and charging, insulated chiller) mount on any tier and can be added after delivery.

Do you do white-label or fleet supply?

Yes — fleet supply and white-label are available for hire businesses, civil-defence buyers, and corporate sustainability programs. Email power@solartrailer.co.nz.
