Use cases · NZWhere Solar Trailer Co units work
Five customer segments. Example use-cases across New Zealand. Silent power that sits inside council noise limits where diesel cannot, runs on no fuel, and pairs with our module catalogue for purpose-built fit-outs.
Dairy and beef farms
Diesel costs on a working farm pile up — and many farms are running gensets near houses, calf sheds and during quiet hours when noise matters. A Solar Trailer Co unit drops in silently, can run through the day on solar in good conditions (runtime depends on load, sunlight and battery size), and sits inside council noise limits where diesel cannot.
- Dairy shed — Tier 1 + comms; illustrative fuel saving on the order of $4,000/yr (depends on runtime and fuel price).
- Lifestyle block — Tier 1 for house and workshop loads.
- Frost-fight booster across a 6 ha block via irrigation module.
- Calf-shed top-up over a wet spring.
Tier 1 — Solo (1.43 kW solar, 5 kWh battery, 6 kW inverter, 16 A switchboard) suits lighter farm draws. Tier 2 — Crew (2.85 kW solar, 10 kWh battery, 16 A / 32 A switchboard) if you need a 32 A circuit or larger storage. Both are available on a trailer or on skids.
Residential builds
Frame crews charging overnight on-site, no diesel haul, no early-morning generator noise from the neighbours. Tier 1 suits a small frame crew; Tier 2 steps up to 2.85 kW of solar, 10 kWh of storage and a 16 A / 32 A switchboard for a larger build. Sizing is indicative — we confirm it against your actual load profile on enquiry.
- Architect home build — Tier 1 + tool-kit module.
- Two-stage subdivision build before mains is in.
- Frame crew of 8 charging overnight on-site.
- Renovation with no street power.
Roading and civil
Council noise rules push diesel generators out of residential-adjacent civil work. Solar Trailer Co units carry the comms, VMS boards, tower lights and tool charging silently, with battery storage sized for 1.5–2 days of zero-sun operation — actual runtime varies with site load and battery size.
- Bridge piling sub-base — long-term Tier 3 hire.
- Cycleway lighting & comms — 6-month run.
Festivals and events
Festival production teams use Solar Trailer Co units for vendor row, stage-side power and comms. Silent, council-friendly, and pairs with the espresso & hospitality module for high-volume espresso service — up to ~600 coffees a day in good conditions (actual output depends on sunlight, load and battery size).
- Festival vendor row — several trailers over a full event.
- Multi-stage festival — stage-side power.
- City New Year's Eve event — multiple trailers.
- 500-pax outdoor wedding — 6 hours, silent.
Off-grid lifestyle
For owners who want to step off-grid without a 24/7 generator. Tier 1 suits a one-operator draw — small workshop, electric tools, water pump, induction cooking — on 1.43 kW of solar (expandable to 2.85 kW), 5 kWh of storage (expandable to 10 kWh) and a 6 kW inverter. For a permanent install, the same build is available on skids instead of a 2.4 m trailer, at a lower cost. Bad-weather backup via hybrid LPG module rental.
